THE LONG BARROW ROOM

The West Kennet Long Barrow is situated on the skyline to the south of Silbury Hill (approx. 2 miles from Dorwyn Manor). It consists of a 104mtr long earthen bank with a series of stone chambers at its eastern end. The bank tapers gently away from its chambered end and has the remains of quarry ditches along each side. The construction of the West Kennet Long Barrow commenced about 3600 BC, which is some 400 years before the first stage of Stonehenge, and it was in use until around 2500 BC. There is still some mystery about how it was used, although archaeological excavations in 1859 and 1955-56 found at least 46 burials.

This Long Barrow room at Dorwyn Manor is en-suite with a comfortable King Size bed and although Avebury’s pre-historic stones are walking distance away, in your room you have the modern luxuries of a flat screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities.
