THE SANCTUARY

The Sanctuary near Avebury

The Sanctuary, located near Avebury in Wiltshire, is an ancient ceremonial site that was once part of a larger complex of prehistoric monuments. Originally consisting of concentric rings of timber posts and later, stone circles, The Sanctuary was constructed around 3000 BC. It is believed to have been a significant site for ritual and ceremonial activities, possibly connected to the Avebury Stone Circle and the West Kennet Avenue. Today, only the concrete markers indicate the positions of the original stones and posts, but the site remains a place of historical and spiritual interest. The Sanctuary offers a fascinating glimpse into the complex ritual landscape of Neolithic Britain.
